Islam won gradual acceptance in Muslim communities where Muslim traders took their spouses to find a place in Indian society. Many Indians adopted Islamic beliefs in hopes of gaining greater social status in Indian society. Islam encouraged the equality of all believers This is why it was popular to all people. Many times members of an entire social class would convert to Islam, and then they would have the same social and economic roles as before. Sufis were the most important agents in conversion to Islam. They attracted individuals searching for a faith that could provide comfort and meaning for their personal lives because they encouraged personal, emotional, and devotional approaches to Islam.
